Question

I know how and where to archives the closed discussion (to the mfd archive) but when do I archive them? Rather, how long do we keep the closed out mfd's under the closed discussion section before taking them to the archive? Should I leave 5 there, and archive the rest? — MaggotSyn 11:10, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

thanks again

thanks again Xaosflux, you are wonderful! you have my vote for anything. Inclusionist (talk) 09:01, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Requesting uninvolved opinion

There is a discussion at Talk:Liancourt Rocks regarding:

  1. Whether the proposed Disputed Islands infobox is neutral in its presentation of basic article information
  2. Whether there is a valid reason to exclude the proposed infobox from the article

I should note that I am involved in the discussion, but I do not want to influence your opinion should you choose to offer one. I merely want some uninvolved editors to view the discussion and then offer an opinion. If you choose to participate, please post your opinion in the RFC comments section there. Thank you for your time. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:42, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Typo?

m:Meta:Administrators/confirm#Dbl2010 Kylu (talk) 05:34, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

(your reply: on meta)
It looks like someone else fixed the typo[1]. You had {{remote}} instead of {{remove}}[2], hence me note. I'm not much fond of others changing people's votes, even for obvious typoes, and was just letting you know. Thanks for participating, by the way! :) Kylu (talk) 02:20, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

RfD nomination of Make a page

I have nominated Make a page (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) for discussion. Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at the discussion page. Thank you. MBisanz talk 02:39, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

User:Cenarium/Protected templates

Yes, I've been thinking to propose it for inclusion in Wikipedia space for a time. I'm yet to decide how to propose it though. Other admins already use similar pages, for example see User:Hersfold/Lockbox, User:Ameliorate!/DYKlock... As I said there, I'd support a centralized page in Wikipedia space. Speedy deletion of Make a page

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Blowdart | talk 15:38, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

As this page is CURRENTLY up on RFD, I've reversed the deletion, and delisted it as a speedy deletion candidate. Please see Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion#Make_a_page_.E2.86.92_Wikipedia:Sandbox for the ongoing discussion. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 15:45, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

CSD image tags

I rechecked "Raptures End Cover 001.jpg" and i still see nothing. When I try to view it directly I get the error: The image http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e0/Raptures_End_Cover_001.jpg" cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

I checked some of the others and I am not sure what the issue was/is as they are clearly duplicates. In the past I have marked the unused ones for CSD and been told I have to mark to lower resolution ones for CSD, not the unused ones, which I what I did in these cases. To be clear are you asking I go back and retag the unused images, even if they are higher resolution? Soundvisions1 (talk) 14:33, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Block Q

Hello, Xaosflux! Re: AIV report. The IP was blocked, but not the registered user Mywebsearch (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log). Wasn't sure if you saw that or not. Rgrds. --Tombstone (talk) 15:01, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Category:Ballets by Arthur Sullivan

I think that your deletion (without discussion or notice) Category:Ballets by Arthur Sullivan was a bit hasty; please see User talk:Shoemaker's Holiday#Category:Ballets by Arthur Sullivan and restore the category until the matter has been resolved. — Robert Greer (talk) 23:40, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

MfD Problem

Hi, Xaosflux! You recently closed the discussion Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Joelporter with the result being "Speedy Keep per WP:BITE". However, there has been a mistake on our part, as User:Dravecky pointed out to me. The page was created on 1st November 2007, and not 2008. We had !voted on keeping the page, thinking that it was created only a few minuted ago. I guess you can't delete it now without another discussion, so I'm re-nominating it for deletion. Chamal talk 14:47, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I think I messed it up big. Thanks for fixing it.

Concordia

You closed Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Concordia and it says that WP:CCD and WP:CONCORD were deleted. Actually, they remain as redirects to the historical main Concordia page. The MfD page says "Don't change." Is it nonetheless okay to make this minor correction? If it makes any difference, the CCD shortcut is used in hundreds of pages; the longer one in just a few. Re: MFD for StSFD

Hi X - thanks for closing the SfD/WSSP deletion page. Thought I'd better point out though that one of the changes you made actually repeated information already on the page (have a look at the fifth item in the "what this page is not for" section). Perhaps refactoring the two lines together somehow...? Grutness...wha? 04:42, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Yup - that looks better - I've also moved it to the top of that "not for" section so it's a little more prominent. Cheers. Grutness...wha? 09:54, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Editor Assistance Request

Dear xaosflux,

We are attempting to create a Wikipedia Page for Lou Stanasolovich who is founder, CEO and President of Legend Financial Advisors, Inc. in Pittsburgh, PA. Our company Web site is www.legend-financial.com. We are having difficulty once we have created the page, it is being deleted and we are not sure what we are doing wrong. We are putting in descriptive content that uses a neutral point of view and we believe we are complying with Wikipedia's editorial guidelines. We are primarily seeking to post factual biopgraphical information about Mr. Stanasolovich. Mr. Stanasolovich is a highly regarded and an extremely accomplished financial advisory professional who is frequently sought after by the national media and industry conferences to speak about various topics. Our goal is to create a short, factual Wiki about him as his name is often searched upon in search engines due to the media recognition he receives. We have noticed that a friend of ours in the financial advisory profession, Harold Evensky has successfully built a Wiki article and we were attempting to model Lou's after his but it still got deleted. Could you please advise us as to how we can mold the content a certain way in order to create and sustain the article? Also, is there a Wiki customer service contact person we could speak with directly by telephone if we continue to experience problems? We are excited about being part of the Wikipedia community to provide objective information about one of the most prominent figures in the financial advisory profession. Please advise.

Best Regards, --LFA061807 (talk) 14:34, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Please do not delete the Yip Pin Xiu article

Please do not delete the Yip Pin Xiu article because for now, it is valid and substantiated. Ruennsheng (Talk) 12:42, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

American deletionists often seem to think that "Singaporean" means "non-notable". Such beliefs worsen systemic bias and should be discouraged. Please be more careful when AFDing or speedying; a little research would have quickly established notability. --J.L.W.S. The Special One (talk) 06:17, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
  • While I processed this article's speedy deletion, I have no personal desire to see this page removed. At the time I deleted it another editor had nominated it for deletion for failing to assert notability, in a manner that did not suggest any bias, in fact the entire article at the time consisted of the sentence A Paralympic swimmer, who studies in Bendemeer Secondary School. If it would have said A Paralympic swimmer, who studies at Harvard Law School. it would have also failed to assert notability. An important thing to remember is that there is a difference between the notability of a subject, and the assertion of notability in an article; article writers are responsible for asserting notability, which it appears has since been done on the page (in as little as stating that the subject is a world record holder). In it's current state, this article hell well surpassed the assertion of notability to protect it from that type of speedy deletion, however any page can be nominated for AfD for most any reason under the deletion policy. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 12:01, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Looks that in future, articles that are notable really needs to be saved. If not, it is pointless to delete articles... that can be saved. Ruennsheng (Talk) 13:22, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
I did not consider your deletion bad faith, just bad judgement. Thanks for explaining your deletion rationale. Assertion of notability is a tricky concept for newcomers, so doing a little research before deleting and being careful not to bite helps. Was "a Paralympic swimmer" an assertion of notability (I think "an Olympic swimmer" definitely would be)? --J.L.W.S. The Special One (talk) 03:57, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Had the initial stub asserted notability by saying this was an award winning athlete, that would have met my threshold to delist it from CSD rather then delete it. — xaosflux Talk 04:36, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
Noted. This is meant as a reminder to be more careful in future, not an admonition. By the way, the article is currently on peer review as I am aiming for GA status; perhaps you would like to review it? That would more than make up for the deletion. --J.L.W.S. The Special One (talk) 04:55, 8 December 2008 (UTC)

Amazon have lifted that from Wikipedia. I remember putting in the new section headings myself ([3])... Black Kite 16:34, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
