TFA[edit]
story · music · places |

Today's TFA, Felix M. Warburg House, was written by Vami_IV and Epicgenius, introduced: "This article is about another of the great houses that once lined Fifth Avenue in New York. Specifically, this is the mansion of Felix M. Warburg, a Jewish financier who ignored fears of anti-Semitic reprisal to his decided to build himself a big Gothic manor in the middle of New York City. Although the Warburgs no longer remain, their legacy does: the museum is now the home of the Jewish Museum (Manhattan) and the building largely survives as they left it. It's a beautiful building and I hope you will all enjoy it."! - in memory -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:08, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Doom (2016 video game) - today's TFA is again by Vami - thank you for adding to the soprano deletion discussion, - I learned today that her opera company's biography is "promotional", and using it at all (regardless for what) is not ethical - really? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:54, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for improving articles in May! - Today's story mentions a concert I loved to hear and a piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:28, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for offering to do the dirty admin work. I'd like to understand the nature of the conflict you mention, but with links to a deleted article, it's hard to verify. I wonder if diffs to the situation before the deletion would work. - Good luck! - Nice music on my talk today, on a friend's birthday whose perspective on a concert I sang in is pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:38, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, Gerda. I think any admin or any crat could provide a copy of the content somewhere. – DreamRimmer (talk) 17:12, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- understand - new pics of places --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
COI warning and UAA listing[edit]
Please don't do both with little time in between. From the UAA instructions: Discuss less-serious violations with the user on their talk page so that they can rename or abandon their account in good faith. Templates such as {{Uw-username}} or {{Uw-coi-username}} may be used. If, after discussion with a user, the problem still seems unresolved, a username request for comment may be in order.
(bold italics mine.) - UtherSRG (talk) 13:33, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- @UtherSRG, COI warning was sent when I reverted their edit and I reported it because it was an obvious violation of the username policy. I understand that we should only do one thing at a time—either report it or discuss it with the user. However, the COI warning message doesn't provide instructions about usernames. Also, I have seen admins processing these types of reports. – DreamRimmer (talk) 13:58, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- I suggest working to improve the information provided to the user on the COI warning (or providing the additional information yourself), then, so that you don't feel the need to immediately report to UAA. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:06, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, I'll do that. Thanks for the message. Take care! – DreamRimmer (talk) 14:09, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- I suggest working to improve the information provided to the user on the COI warning (or providing the additional information yourself), then, so that you don't feel the need to immediately report to UAA. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:06, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
Tech News: 2024-21[edit]
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- The Nuke feature, which enables administrators to mass delete pages, will now correctly delete pages which were moved to another title. [1]
- New changes have been made to the UploadWizard in Wikimedia Commons: the overall layout has been improved, by following new styling and spacing for the form and its fields; the headers and helper text for each of the fields was changed; the Caption field is now a required field, and there is an option for users to copy their caption into the media description. [2][3]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 May. It will be on all wikis from 23 May (calendar). [4][5]
- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It will change on 22 May in some skins (Timeless, Modern, CologneBlue, Nostalgia, and Monobook). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in all other skins. The developers are also considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.

Help[edit]
Hi! Hope you are doing well. Today morning I moved the article I created - Boomerang (2024 Bengali film) from draftspace to mainspace. But after that a warning was displayed on top of the article which I roughly remember. It said something like "The draft has exceeded 20,157 bytes. If you don't want to lose the edit history of the draft, then merge the edit history of the draft with the main article. An administrator should do this job. If you are an non-administrator, then put this {{ }} (I don't remember what was there) on top of the page."
But I thought of closing the window and then put the {{ }} on top of the page. But later when I again opened the article, there was no warning. It had disappeared.
So, can you please see the matter and take the necessary steps so that the article and the history remains.
Thanks

- In March 2024 a new addPortlet API was added to allow gadgets to create new portlets (menus) in the skin. In certain skins this can be used to create dropdowns. Gadget developers are invited to try it and give feedback.
- Some CSS in the Minerva skin has been removed to enable easier community configuration. Interface editors should check the rendering on mobile devices for aspects related to the classes:
.collapsible
,.multicol
,.reflist
,.coordinates
,.topicon
. Further details are available on replacement CSS if it is needed.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 28 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 29 May. It will be on all wikis from 30 May (calendar). [6][7]
- When you visit a wiki where you don't yet have a local account, local rules such as edit filters can sometimes prevent your account from being created. Starting this week, MediaWiki takes your global rights into account when evaluating whether you can override such local rules. [8]

A barnstar for you![edit]
The Resilient Barnstar | |
For your tireless editing contributions throughout the years, any barnstar is long overdue. However, I am issuing you this barnstar for your attitude, response to criticism, and your self-retraction of your request for adminship, acknowledging your need for improvement. Keep working at it! Thanks,NeuropolTalk 17:52, 31 May 2024 (UTC) |
- Adding to the above to say thanks for the many excellent contributions over time and I hope you stick around to make many more after what must have been a fairly unpleasant RfA. There is certainly some brisk but well-meant advice in the oppose section which will be useful if you choose to nominate again. There's also some over-the-top stuff which can be disregarded: I'll leave it to you to sort one from the other! Either way, all the best with continued editing and hope to keep seeing you around UAA. -- Euryalus (talk) 00:00, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- And don’t forget that the highest position anyone can hold on the project is "editor". Maxebout (talk) 02:41, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- drive-by: @DreamRimmer, like Maxebout said, "editor is the highest office". You are an admin of your own and people like you are also needed too. Stay safe and reapply in a few months. A worldly barnster of resilience. Safari ScribeEdits! Talk! 06:54, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you all for your kind messages. I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart :) – DreamRimmer (talk) 11:46, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
Page Review Request[edit]
Hey DreamRimmer, Hope you're having a great day. Sorry for the ping! Just wondering, are you able to review pages about a record label in India? I just wrote an article about Mass Appeal India very recently. I would love to get it approved. I tried requesting for review from an another editor, but it seems like they're inactive at the moment. I'm sorry if you do not review music related pages, though. Thank you for your time. 𝓡𝔂𝓭𝓮𝔁 17:28, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for reaching out. The article is in the queue and will be reviewed soon. – DreamRimmer (talk) 11:42, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

Question from ManCityFanIndian (09:44, 6 June 2024)[edit]
Hello, how do I cite sources, can I do it with Visual Editing? --ManCityFanIndian (talk) 09:44, 6 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @ManCityFanIndian, welcome to Wikipedia. Yes, you can cite sources while using the Visual Editor. To do this, click on the 'Cite' button in the Visual Editor toolbar. You can choose 'Auto' to paste a URL or other identifying information, and the tool will automatically fill in the citation details. Alternatively, select 'Manual' to choose a citation template like 'Book' or 'Website' and fill in the required fields yourself. For sources you've already cited in the article, use the 'Re-use' option to select from your existing citations. You can find a more detailed guide at WP:REFVISUAL. I hope this helps. – DreamRimmer (talk) 07:43, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
